Ford EV First-Time Buyer’s Guide

Date: Sept 29, 2023

A blue truck is recharging its electric battery.

Ford continues to push the envelope of EV ownership with the automaker’s transition from its most popular gasoline-powered vehicles to battery-powered ones. We’d love to put a Ford electric vehicle in your Wenonah garage after you look over your options.

See what’s available with our Ford EV first-time buyer’s guide. Ford will be producing more and more EVs in the coming years, but it’s got plenty of choices available, many of which are on our lot right now.

Ford F-150 Lightning Maintenance

Your Ford F-150 Lightning will require less fluid maintenance compared to what’s needed for a vehicle equipped with an internal combustion engine. For example, you do not have to worry about regular oil changes. Your F-150 Lightning will still need standard fluid maintenance such as brake fluid service and windshield wiper fluid replacement. EVs feature regenerative braking, which also minimizes the wear and tear on your brake system. Enjoy less frequent brake pad replacement and more.

At approximately 35,000, your cabin air filter will need to be replaced. If you are worried about the cost of replacing your battery, you are certainly not alone. Fortunately, EV batteries have a long lifespan and your battery is covered with an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty, whichever comes first in addition to 70% degradation coverage. If your battery does happen to wear down prematurely, you do not have to cover the full cost of replacement.

Ford Mustang Mach-e Maintenance

As with the F-150 Lighnting, service is much less of a burden for Mustang Mach-e owners as well. Here is what you can expect when it comes to Ford Mustang Mach-e maintenance.

10k-Mile Service or 1 Year:

  • Wheels & Tires – Rotate all tires to ensure even tread wear
  • Inspection – Check brake pads, tires, and fluid levels

20k-Mile Service or 2 Years:

  • Cabin Air Filter – Replace with new filter
  • Wheels & Tires – Rotate all tires to ensure even tread wear
  • Inspection – Check brake pads, tires, and fluid levels

30k-Mile Service or 3 Years:

  • Brakes – Replace brake fluid
  • Wheels & Tires – Rotate all tires to ensure even tread wear
  • Inspection – Check brake pads, tires, and fluid levels

At the 40,000-mile mark (or 4 years), the services listed above will continue at regular intervals. Additional services are necessary at 100,000 miles for the electric drive assembly fluid and at 200,000 miles for a battery coolant replacement.
